River Run

I love to cycle.  I hate to run.  But I'm trying to change that.  My 6S friend Kimbarley asked me to do the River Run 5K with her, so I did.  I think we did pretty good since neither of us did any training or prep for the race.  After our race we ran into another 6S cardiac RN friend, Alysha, who was getting ready for her 10K race.  Unlike us though, she runs daily.

Every Wednesday I'm off (which is every other week) I take the boys to cub scouts while Jason goes on a 25-30 mile bike ride with his friends.  The Wednesday I work, he takes the boys.  This was our troop hike.  Below that is Kaiden helping me with my bench.  I decided I wanted to get into woodworking.  I've never used power tools before and really had no idea how to use them... and honestly I was a bit scared that I might cut off some digits.  But I'm intrigued by the unknown and I wanted to teach myself how to use them.  Jason owns a bunch of tools and gave me the okay to use them (no instruction though) so... I cautiously experimented with them.  I decided to choose a very simple, basic bench to build while I learn the tools.  I had to buy a Kreg Jig since Jason didn't own that tool. My bench is a simple design, but I'm happy to say I built it completely on my own.  Below is when I sanded it down before staining it.  I plan to put it by the front door when I'm finished.

kaiden's 4th birthday party

Kaiden insisted that he ONLY wanted his best friend, Landry to come to his birthday party and nobody else.  I eventually convinced him to let his brother Connor, his cousin Ryan and Landry's brother Raheem come to the party too.  Oh and Jason, myself, Madi, Grandma and Grandpa too.
I started the party off with some games.  I attached paint sticks to paper plates and used them as paddles.  The object of the game was to make sure no balloons touched the ground and you could only use your paddle to touch the balloons.  The kids loved this game.
For the next game I put magnetic numbers in a bucket.  Then I made a fishing pole tying a string to a wooden pole and attached a magnet to the end.  The object of the game was to go fishing in the bucket and pull out 2 numbers without looking.  The highest numbers win.  Landry won.
Third game was musical chairs, only instead of chairs I made Paw Patrol cardboard circles on the floor for the kids to sit on.  Madi even played this game.
Then it was time for presents since all the kids were anxious to see the gifts.  Kaiden got lots of Paw Patrol toys, which he was very excited about.  He also got a marble run, which all the kids put together and played with.
Then it was slime time.  Before the party I looked up recipes to make homemade slime.  I experimented the morning of the party and made a few batches of slime, which the boys (Jason, Connor and Kaiden) had fun playing with.  Then during the party I let the kids mix their own slime and play with it.  Connor and Kaiden didn't want to play with the slime during the party since they had already played with slime that morning... so they played with his new Paw Patrol toys instead.  But Madi, Landry and Raheem had fun playing with the slime.  Ryan didn't want to get his hands sticky so he didn't play with slime either.
Next was lunch.  For adults I made a chicken salad sandwich, which was so delicious!  Everyone loved it.  For the kids I made mini grilled cheese sandwiches and peperoni roll ups, which were also a huge hit.  I also had a veggie tray, bean/cheese dip, chips, and jello.
Kaiden had chose a chocolate fudge ice cream cake from Dairy Queen.  I asked them not to decorate the cake so I could add my own decorations.  I topped the cake with a Rubble Paw Patrol bulldozer, which was pushing chocolate rocks over the edge of the cake.  The kids all loved the cake.  When it came time to blow out the candle Kaiden had to pause for several minutes to think of what he wanted to wish for.  Connor started getting impatient and was about the blow out the candle for him (which is why Raheem covered Connor's mouth) and then Kaiden finally blew out his candle.  The cake was amazing!  Everyone loves the DQ ice cream cakes.  After cake Madi and Ryan left, then shortly after Grandma and Grandpa left.  Raheem and Landry stuck around to play for a bit then went home too.  I bought the kids all Paw Patrol sticker boards, where you can create a few scenes with reusable stickers.  Since the kids were having so much fun playing we never had any down time to decorate the boards, so they all took them home to decorate later.  Kaiden's party was a total hit.  Everyone had fun, the food was great, the cake was awesome, the games were tons of fun and  we all had a blast.

Paw Patrol

Kaiden loves the Paw Patrol, so I bought tickets for the Paw Patrol show at the INB.  He was so excited that it was going to be just for him and I.  He told Jason and Connor that they were not allowed to go, it was just for "Kaiden and Mom!"  We brought his Chase stuffed animal that we made at build a bear with us.  We got there early so we had fun taking goofy pictures with my iphone (which takes horrible pictures).  The show was great, but it was pouring down rain when we left.  We had to walk a few blocks to get to our car and by then we were drenched.  But it was nothing that a little Dutch Brother's hot cocoa couldn't fix.
