home school

more home school science projects... bubble dough- made with dish soap and corn starch.

Chilly April walks.  Kaiden fixing the bottom of our end table.  He has his own tools that he likes to go around 'fixing' things in our house.  Play dough time.  Our daily school time at the dinning table.  Baking with mom.  Goofy Ms. Piper

I decided to repaint our laundry/mud room.  2 of the walls were still the flat white from the builders.  The other 2 walls I had painted a light blue/lavender color, which I loved... but Jason hated. We decided on a medium-dark gray for the lower half of all the walls and simply white for the upper half.  I painted the upper half of the walls and then taped off for the lower half.  Jason did his inspection of my tape job... notice he used a level and "eyeballed" to make sure my line was straight.  Ironically the tape line I had above the washer/dryer he insisted was not straight and he removed and put up a new tape line.  I painted the lower half gray and after I removed the tape when I was done we realized the new tape line he put up above the washer/dryer was actually slanted and the line was off by an inch.  HA HA HA  After some eye rolling by me and complaining by Jason I fixed the section so it was level and straight.  I also used the same gray to paint behind our TV in our new entertainment center that we built this last winter.

Covid19

So, we take our temperature when we get to work and if it's over 100F we have to leave.  Today my temp was 99.8F when I arrived to work and 100.4F on my lunch break.  I was sent home at that time. The following day I had to drive to the fairgrounds to get tested for Covid19. The test is awful and scrapes your throat for the sample. I woke up the next morning with my throat hurting. 5 days later I got my negative test result, but because my temperature ranged from 99.5-100.6F for the next 2+ weeks I had to stay home on sick leave. I'm pretty sure the temperature was due to allergies because I had a constant sinus drainage the entire time.

science projects

The boys and I are having fun doing science projects.  We made butter.

We used milk and vinegar to make plastic

We created power with a potato.

Jason and I re-sealed the roof of our RV and then put it in storage to fully dry.

Home School

I'm the new teacher.  Jason is the new principle.  Connor's work is mainly on-line and he's independent with it.  We check in on him once in a while, but for the most part he just wakes up in the morning and starts doing his work.  Luckily the kid is a math genius!  We're so glad about that because neither of us understand the new Common Core way of doing math.  He's still working with his tutor for reading, but at this point I'm not sure we even need a tutor anymore.  He's reading really good and he loves to read.  If he's not playing with his brother I can almost guarantee he's either in his bedroom reading his book or in the basement playing at his Lego table.  He's such a good kid.
Kaiden is good too, but being that he's only 5 it's harder to keep him focused.  And he can't work independent on his homework.  I can usually get him to sit and work for 1 hour before he needs a break.  I bought both the boys Brain Quest home school books.  Connor I bought 5th grade, which some of the pages are super easy for him but at least it's a refresher.  Kaiden I bought 1st grade.  The work they are doing in kindergarten now is more equivalent to 1st grade work.  He's already reading books, which when Connor went through this he was in 1st grade before they started reading books.  Kaiden is already doing addition and subtraction too.  We spend 1 hour in the morning working then in the afternoon I bring both the boys to the table to complete 3-4 pages in their Brain Quest home school books.  That's a little more challenging for me since I'm toggling between both of them.  Then we try to do a science project, which the boys love.
Oil and Water science project.

Writing on plates with dry erase markers and then adding water to make the pictures break free and float in the water

Outside play.  Digging in dirt.  Riding bikes/scooters, taking the dog for walks.

Above craft time.  Below capillary science project- colored water in one cup will level out to the other cup by climbing over the towel.  Also capillary science project with celery and colored water.

Connor lost a took with a bracket on it.
Connor and I practiced tennis in the backyard.
Science project- dissolving egg shell with vinegar.
