Misc. May

Our garden!  C and I planted seeds the beginning of April.  Since the weather is starting to get warm we decided to move them outside.

We planted them along the fence.  Assuming everything survives we'll have: 5 raspberry bushes, 2 pole bean plants, 3 snap peas, 6 carrots, 3 onions, 3 bell peppers, 4 zucchini's, 3 cucumbers and 4 tomatoes.
We upgraded our fish bowl to a 5 gallon tank.  We started with Joel (the dwarf African frog), a snail and two small fish.  Unfortunately every time I went to the pet store to buy a small tank heater they were out.  By the time I finally got a heater... only the snail was alive.  Bummer.  The pet store had told me that they would survive with or without heat, but that they did better with heat.  It's been a week now and Gary (the snail) is enjoying our toasty warm Sponge Bob Square Pants tank.  C really wants a  Nemo fish, but I had a salt water tank years ago and it's more work than I want to deal with.  So, we'll see what other fish catch his eye.
J wasn't here when we played with corn starch (gak).  He wanted to check out the "liquid but not" texture.  Strange, but fun stuff!
 My little artist at work
Lauren had planned on going to the cemetery to see the Haunted 1000 steps on Friday the 13th, but her friend ended up having to work until late.  The next day I had to take Chloe to the vet for her yearly physical and shots... so Lauren and I stopped to check it out with Chloe.
"There's a number of steps leading from the side of the road up to the cemetery dubbed the 1000 steps. These steps lead up to a place where satanic rituals are supposedly held. No one is said to be able to make it to the top step due to overwhelming fear."  I copied that off the web.  It's listed as being haunted.  It turns out to be only about 30 steps.  What a disappointment.  I found a grounds keeper at the top and asked about the famous steps though and found out that way back before cars this was the only entry into the cemetery.  The horse and buggy would stop at the bottom of the hill and men would have to carry the casket up these steps to the cemetery... which I'm sure it felt like 1000 steps.
We made it to the top no problem!  No strange noises or haunting to report.  I don't know about satanic rituals, but the ground keeper did say kids like to party on the steps at night.  We found a glass bong sitting on a step at the top, which confirms the partying.
This is the view from the top.  The steps are located behind the building.
We walked around the cemetery enjoying the sunshine until Chloe decided she was too tired to go any farther.  Poor girl.  She has arthritis in her back hips.  I didn't want her to try to walk down that steep hill, so we waited at the top while Lauren got the car.
