Frog Hollow

We took Raheem with us to Frog Hollow (AKA Lake Roosevelt) for the day.  We got Subway sandwiches to take with us for lunch and stopped at Edna's in Davenport for burgers on the way home (same as the last time Raheem went with us). We all took turns kayaking on Kaiden's new kayak (except Raheem). Everyone also snorkeled (except me). Raheem especially enjoyed snorkeling! We were at Frog Hollow for about 5 hours and Raheem spent a good portion of that time snorkeling. Raheem and Connor also caught 2 crawdads and a large toad. We were disappointed that all the baby toads (tadpoles) were gone this time. We did see a bunch of large sucker fish close to the tadpoles the last time we were here and we think they might have eaten all of them. There was smoke in the air everywhere from all the fires. We could see the smoke in the distance, but the air didn't smell smokey on the lake.

Kayaking on Clear Lake

After Connor's birthday party Sunday we met Tom, Josh's dad at Clear Lake to kayak. It was Tom, Josh, Jason (who snorkeled), me, Connor, Kaiden and Isaac (who was the last at his party and we asked if he could stay longer to play). Tom gave Kaiden Josh's old kayak that he out grew. Kaiden loved it and kayaked so much he got a blister. Towards the end Josh towed Kaiden's kayak since his hand was hurting.

Connor's 13th Birthday party

I told Connor he could have his party any place he wanted and gave him a bunch of suggestions, but he decided he wanted to have it at our house with a few of his closest buddies. He wanted to kayak and play with his friends at Medical Lake (small lake in town with no motorized boats) and then camp in our backyard and watch a movie outside on the projector. We had 9 boys: Connor, Ryan, Mason, Isaac, Josh, Josh's cousin Jon (who was staying with him), Raheem, Kaiden and Landry. I bought the kids all water guns for the lake and a flash light for camping. The party was Saturday 11:00 - Sunday 11:00. We served 3 types of pizza for lunch and then loaded up the trailer with kayaks and went to Medical Lake. For some reason the boat launch was closed so we had to carry the kayaks down to the beach area. We made the kids wear life vests even though most of them could swim really good... but with 9 kids and just Jason and I to watch them we didn't want to take any chances. A few of his friends brought their kayaks too. All the kids kayaked out to the middle of the lake and then swam and played. Jason had his snorkel and stayed by the boys to keep an eye on them. I had sent a message to his friend Isaac, who was the only kid that didn't show up. He forgot about the party and his mom hurried to drop him off, so I stuck by the shore to meet them. They played at the lake from 2:00-5:30 then we loaded back up and came home. The kids had otter pops and ran around the front yard playing while Jason BBQ the hamburgers. Then they had a  Nerf war in the basement. We sung Happy Birthday and had his Thin Mint blizzard cake, followed by presents. The boys played with the Nerf guns and we set up the tent outside. For the last 2 days we had great weather during the day but then the smoke would roll in at night, so we didn't want to set the tent and projector up early in case that happened for his party too. Luckily it didn't though. But since we hadn't tested the projector outside we decided to have the kids just watch the movie on the projector downstairs instead. They watched Avengers Endgame. Kaiden and Landry fell asleep during the movie, so I moved them into their sleeping bags in the basement. Ryan decided to sleep down there with them too. The rest of the boys went outside to visit before going to sleep. Jon's dad (who he hadn't seen in 3 months) came and got him at midnight. The rest of the kids went to bed somewhere around 12:30am. Jason and I slept in our bed with the window open (which the boys were right outside our window in the backyard). Surprisingly the kids were up early at 7:30am. I made waffles and pancakes, Jason made bacon. The kids had another Nerf war. Then everyone left. Isaac was the last and we asked if he could stay longer to play with Connor. They played Lego's and then we took him kayaking with us on Clear lake. We met Tom, Josh's dad there and we all kayaked.  Another fun birthday party in the books!
