San Diego zoo, part 1

Day 5: San Diego Zoo 10-5
Connor woke up with 4 episodes of diarrhea, but he said he felt better.  After breakfast we stopped at Walgreen's and I asked the pharmacist what he thought about giving Connor Children's Imodium or if he had any better ideas.  He agreed that Imodium would be a great idea.  So, I purchased some Imodium and Gatorade.  Gave Connor a dose and encouraged him to sip on the Gatorade and we were off to the zoo for a second try.  The Imodium completely stopped his stomach cramps and he only had 1 small episode of diarrhea at the zoo (which he received a second dose of Imodium for) and then the diarrhea was gone!  Within a very short period he felt great!  We always bring snacks with us everywhere and Connor got to snack throughout the day and sip on his Gatorade.  His body was still exhausted from days of being sick, so he took turns with Kaiden riding in the stroller.  But from this point forward in our vacation Connor was "mostly" back to feeling normal (with just the exception of being a little tired).  The weather was beautiful from this point forward in our vacation as well.  At least if Connor had to be sick he picked the perfect days to do it!  The only 2 days that he was really feeling crummy (puking, diarrhea) was when it was miserably hot outside and pouring down rain!   You planned it well Connor!!  Connor's favorite part- the rhino's, Kaiden's- the long neck antelope (Gerenuk), mine- monkey's, elephants, giraffes.   In the gift shop Connor chose a big stuffed Rhino for his keepsake, Kaiden chose a blue snake.

San Diego zoo

Day 4: San Diego Zoo
Connor woke  up with diarrhea. After a bland breakfast in the hotel lobby (trying to stick to the BRAT diet to help his body recover) we asked if he wanted to take it easy and relax at the hotel again.  Like a trooper he insisted we go to the zoo... so we tried.  We started with the Guided Bus Tour and Centennial Theater, which is a 35 minute narrated tour around the zoo's grounds.  Then it started pouring down rain.  After a quick stop at the gift shop we bought 4 rain poncho's (1 for Jason, Connor, myself and 1 for Kaiden's stroller).  They resembled garbage bags, but at least they kept us dry.  Kaiden took a nap while we viewed their huge insect and reptile exhibits.  After a few hours the rain just wasn't letting up and it was beginning to get miserable walking around soggy.  Plus we wanted to give Connor more time to rest and recover.  So, we went back to the hotel for more swimming and naps.  We just made sandwiches for dinner and relaxed.

San Diego Safari

Day 3: San Diego Safari
Connor woke up early in the morning and puked all over his bed.  We cleaned things up and then he stayed in bed while we grabbed some breakfast in the hotel lobby.  I think he may have caught a bug on the plane.  We debated on staying at the hotel for the day, but Connor wanted to see the Safari.. so we gave it a shot.  We were only at the Safari for a few hours though since he didn't feel good.   The temperature today was 86 and it was roasting hot!  Even if Connor was feeling good we probably wouldn't have stayed at the Safari too long because it was just too hot to be outside walking.  Kaiden loved the petting area.  Connor spent half the time riding in the stroller so he could rest, while Kaiden ran around.  Plus we took the African Tram, which allowed him to rest on the tram and still see the animals.  Then we headed home so Connor could get some rest.  We made sandwiches for lunch, swam in the pool, all 3 boys took naps (I stayed up to read my ACLS manual since I have the 2 day class/test as soon as we get home), watched TV, vegged out.. Connor went to bed at 4:00pm.  Kaiden went to sleep at 6:30.  (normal bedtimes are: Connor 9:00, Kaiden 8:00).  Since the boys both needed their sleep we didn't want to wake them up.  Jason picked up a pizza and we ate pizza in bed watching the Big Bang Theory.
