Deer Lake

My brother, John has an RV at the Deer Lake resort that they spend a lot of summer time relaxing at.  He invited us to join him and Ryan there for the day.  John swam out to the dock with Connor and Ryan to play, while I stayed closer to shore with Kaiden and my parents.  Then we visited around the fire and enjoyed John's shish kabobs for dinner.  Laura joined us later on (she worked the night before and had to get some sleep first).  Then we made smores, which John introduced us to Reece's smores!  Yum!  Connor and Ryan also spent tons of time comparing and battling Pokemon cards.  Kaiden drew some pictures.  Grandpa wondered around the camp ground (typical Grandpa always wondering around checking things out).  Grandma cuddled Kaiden.  Jason had to work and missed out.  Piper had to stay home, unfortunately his camp ground does not allow dogs.  We didn't get home until after 9:30pm.

swimming and haircuts

Piper went for a swim with Connor and Jason in the pool to cool off.  She loves to swim. Then afterwords Jason gave both the boys hair cuts outside.  Kaiden has my hair.  It's very fine and looks great cut short since it lays down.  Connor's hair is more like Jason's though and I think it looks better a little bit longer so it will lay down.  When it's cut really short it tends to want to spike and stick up in the back no matter what you do.  But we decided since it's so hot outside that it would probably be more comfortable really short, so that's what we did.  Connor wanted to leave it long, which drives Jason crazy.  Kaiden used to get mad every time we cut his hair because he wanted to grow it long and wear it in a pony tail.  Which is hilarious because Jason can't stand any hair that even touches the ears on guys.  After the boys got their hair cuts then I cut Jason's hair outside too.  Under his directions of course.  He's been using the clippers to cut his own hair since high school, so he knows exactly how he likes it cut.  I've only cut it a few times for him.

Spokane Valley Cycle Celebration 2018

The boys and I signed up for the 10 mile family ride.  Jason signed up for the 50 mile ride with his friends.  His ride started 1 1/2 hours before ours did, so we drove separate cars.  Both rides start and end at Mirabeau Point Park.  They had to re-route the 50 mile ride due to construction this year and it turned out perfect.  Our family ride follows the centennial trail the entire way, which is a beautiful paved ride following the river with trees around.  Only a few minutes after we started our ride, Jason and his cycling buddies Stephani and Stacy caught up to us.  (Jason usually rides with a group of guys, but they had left before he got there, so he rode with Steph and Stacy, who also train for triathlons with him.  He prefers to ride with his group of faster guys though.  His typical ride speed is 20mph and the girls tend to ride closer to the 16-17mph speed).  They had completed 30 miles of their ride and were crossing over for the next 20 miles.  They slowed down and rode with us for a mile though.  Kaiden was on his own bike, his strider, which takes a lot of work for his little legs and he rode it for an entire mile!  At that point he said he was tired and I stopped to load him and his bike into the bike trailer that I was towing behind my bike.  Jason, Stephani and Stacy continued on at that point.  But a few miles up they stopped at one of the rest areas with snacks/water and Jason decided to circle back and finish the ride with us.  Stephani and Stacy went on and Jason came back to ride with me and the boys.  The last 1/2 mile Kaiden decided to climb out of the cart and ride his bike again.  Then he rode is around for another 1/2 mile or so afterwords too.  In all Kaiden rode his bike 2 miles!!  Connor was so fast that the only pictures I could get were of the back of him the entire ride.  I wasn't sure if 10 miles would be too long for him to ride, but he surprised me and himself and rode the entire 10 miles with no problems.  He was always out in front, speeding along and had energy to keep going even after the ride.  I'm so impressed with these boys!!  Oh and we all had cycle celebration shirts, but the sizing is huge.  I ordered an adult small for me, which is actually a men's size small and it's HUGE.  I ordered Connor a youth medium and Kaiden a youth small.  Connor ended up wearing the youth small (which was WAY too big for Kaiden and fit Connor perfect) and I wore the youth medium.  Note to self- next year order ONLY youth sizes.  Afterwords we visited with everyone over the sack lunches they provide and then met at a pub down the street for some beers.  I finally got to meet Mandy, who works close to Jason and they go for bike rides on their lunches together sometimes.  Then we took our family to DQ because I had promised the boys some blizzards to reward them for their awesome bike ride!  They did great and nobody complained.  I love it when we can all have fun exercising.
