We drove the RV to Marysville on Friday, 8/13/21. We explored their new Cabela's store, bought some fudge (Cabela's fudge is usually really good, but this tasted more like chocolate frosting, ick!) and dry camped at the nearby casino for the night. The next morning we met Hellen and Larry (friends we met camping a year ago) at the Farm House for a delicious breakfast before getting on the ferry in Anacortes and heading to Friday Harbor on San Juan Island. From there we drove to our campsite at the Fairgrounds. Right next to our campsite was a skateboard park, which Kaiden loved! He rode his bike there every day and watched the older kids do tricks and tried to copy their moves. He scared Jason and I with his adventurous, dare devil moves as he rode his bike higher and higher up the sides. He never did fall though. Although Jason used Connor's mountain bike to compete with Kaiden and Jason did fall and scrape up his knee. There was also a play ground with a fun, new type of swing the boys enjoyed. And a mini free library! Connor found a Harry Potter book inside and a few days later another Harry Potter book. The town of Friday Harbor was a .7 mile walk from our campsite, so we walked into town almost every day. The island has wild black berries everywhere. The boys were addicted to picking and eating them. We spent 1 day driving the RV all around the island. We explored both the American and British camps, sculpture park (which had huge sculptures spread over 20 acres), 2 light houses, several beaches, etc. We went to the Whale museum and watched their 1 hour movie on whales and sound waves. We had a delicious lunch right on the water- Connor of course had to get his clam chowder soup and cheeseburger. I had a crab sandwich. Jason had fish and chips. Kaiden had a cheeseburger. One of our favorite places on the island was the Serendipity used book store. They turned an old house into the book store with books lined floor to ceiling in every room.. it was almost endless! Connor found a ton of books to bring home. We took the ferry over to Orcas on Tuesday. We rented a car to explore the island. We went to Mt. Constitution, took several hikes through wooded areas, got ice cream, had a picnic next to the water, had a blast at the Harry Potter Illusions escape room and then met my 2nd cousin Mic Silvas at his house, along with his son Michael and granddaughter Riley for a short visit. He gave us 5 fresh crab he just caught too.
