Fun Thursday

Connor had an orthodontic appointment Thursday morning. Jason had to travel to Virginia for the week. So, the boys and I decided to have a fun day. After his appointment we went to Twisted Sugar to check it out. I've heard good things about them, but we were disappointed. They only sell cookies and soda. And their specialty cookies are basic sugar cookies. Kaiden ordered a Cotton Candy Sprinkle cookie and Connor ordered a lemon cookie. For $3.00 a cookie I expect more than a boring sugar cookie. Then we went to 2nd Look book store. Kaiden found 2 books there. Then off to Wishing Tree book store. Connor found 2 books there. And finally to Grant park. I let the boys plan our day- Connor wanted to check out some book stores. Kaiden wanted to play at a splash pad. Unfortunately the splash pad at Grant park was not working, but he had fun playing there anyway. Connor started reading one of his new books at the park.

Cheeky Cauldron

7-15 We spent the night in Lincoln City last night just so we could go to the Cheeky Cauldron (they were closed on Thursday). It's a small coffee shop/restaurant that is Harry Potter themed. Connor ordered the cucumber tea sandwich with chips. Kaiden got 2 chocolate chip cookies. Jason had a bacon cheddar scone. I had a mocha and pumpkin pastie. The boys split a chocolate frog afterwards too. They did a great job decorating and we had fun. Then it was just a long drive home. I drove for 1.5 hours, Jason drove the rest of the time. The boys watched movies in the back bedroom.

Thor's Well, Newport, Lincoln City

7-14 We found fresh water and a RV dump off the highway. Stopped and we got took showers in the RV, then refilled water and dumped tanks. Stopped at the Sea Lion caves. Decided to just walk around a bit. The lady said there was over 100 wild sea lions in the cave and viewing point. We searched with binoculars but couldn't find a single sea lion in the water... so we find it hard to believe that there were any sea lions there and opted not to spend $100 to walk to their cave. I find it ridiculous how much everything cost now. Drove for a bit and stopped at Thor's Well by Cape Perpetua. Hiked down to the water and explored. It's a big sinkhole sucking in water from the Pacific. We also saw 3 wild whales in the water. Drove to Newport, Oregon. Went to Local Ocean Sea foods for lunch. They had really high reviews, but we found it to be just okay. Connor ordered a crab cake which was really good, but for the price it was pretty sad all he got was one crab cake. Kaiden had fish and fries off the kids menu and his portion size was larger than our adult menu plates. Jason had 2 fish taco's. He was not happy to find the fish was fried. I had a crab sandwich. It was good and there were some big pieces of crab meat and I also had some fries with mine. Overall, it was not worth the $80 price. Checked out Ripley's Believe it or not. After finding it would cost us over $100 to go inside and explore their odd creations we decided to pass. They still had some fun things outside to look at though. Walked on the boardwalk. Saw a wild seal and some tiny crabs. Drove to Lincoln City. Stayed the night at the Chinook Casino RV park. I made taco's for dinner and we played on the beach. Jason watched UFC fights while me and the boys walked to Cold Stone Ice cream for desert.
