This was Jason's 2nd Dirty Dash (he actually registered to do the run last year, but then missed the race because his flight was late getting home from a business trip). This was my first Dirty Dash, along with the Trantums. The Dirty Dash is a 3.5 mile race through obstacle courses and mud. We had a rough start to our day.. we were 15 minutes behind schedule leaving the house, which put Jason in a bad mood. He had planned on meeting our group at 8:00. Then on the freeway to drop Connor off at aunt Staci's house we realized that we forgot our bib numbers and had to turn around to run back for them. Jason was not a happy camper. We ended up getting there about 15 minutes late. Jason bought some Fire Ball for shots before the race (a tradition he started the first year), but since we were late we had to check out bag in and start the race as soon as we got there. Here are a few clean pictures before the race.
Aric and Tina helping Zach and Jakob over the huge climbing wall
me on the monkey bars. I only made it a few rungs since they were covered in mud and extremely slippery
Greg to the left and Jason to the right going over the mini wall
Jakob trying to get over the mini wall to the right. I ducked under these walls
The huge water slide. Those are Jason's feet in the middle of the picture. He slid down head first.
relaxing at the beer station after mile 2. The kids, Tina and I drank a root beer, while the guys cooled down with an ice cold beer.
Jason and Tina climbing the cargo net
Zach was also stuck in the muddy quick sand
Aric finished before the rest of us, but then had to come back to rescue Jakob who was trapped in the mud
We finished! The red glasses I'm wearing are an extra pair of Connor's that I borrowed for the race. The blue shirt I'm wearing is in honor of Jason's friend, Max who did the race the first year with Jason. I'm sure Max would have done the race this year too, but he moved to Alaska. So, to honor Max my shirt says Alaska. We miss you Max and Melissa! After the race everyone donates their muddy shoes, which get cleaned up and distributed to people in need. Jason and I threw our shirts away and my shorts. Jason actually wore silky shorts for the race because he knew they would come clean and he could keep them for racquetball. Out of our group I stayed the cleanest. Probably because I carried a disposable camera in a plastic bag through the entire race so I could get pictures on the obstacles... and I skipped a few of the big mud pits so I could get pictures of everyone else getting muddy.
They spray you with freezing cold water after you cross the finish line. They also have outdoor showers to clean some of the mud off.
Getting our Dirty Dash finisher photo taken
They also have a table at the finish with banana's and granola bars
After the showers I stripped off my muddy clothes and put on some clean dry clothes. Jason, Greg and I hung out in the beer garden for a while to visit before we all met up for a pizza buffet. Then we hung out with Staci and Tony on our front porch for a while. We had actually tried to talk Connor into doing the race with us, but he was not about to walk through mud and get dirty. He wasn't real crazy about the idea of his mother getting dirty either. Maybe next year. They have a Piglet Plunge for the little kids to get dirty.
