Toddler bed

Well, the time has come to say good bye to C's crib and hello new toddler bed!  I love his bedroom furniture.  The bed converts from a crib to a toddler bed to a full size bed.  C is actually happy being in his crib and J would leave him in the crib until he's 12 if he had his way.  I've been wanting to convert his bed all summer.  The only thing that stopped me was J dragging his feet.  J assumed it would be a horrible nightmare when we converted his bed.  He figured C would try to crawl into our bed and we'd all be up all night long for weeks on end.  Or that he'd wonder around in the middle of the night, fall down the stairs and end up hurt.  Sometimes I think J lets his imagination get the best of him!
I on the other hand think 3 is too old to be sleeping in a crib.  I like to encourage his independence.  Plus he's been potty trained for several months now, except at night.  He's never had the opportunity to get out of bed at night to go potty.  For that reason and because I'm the one who typically reads him books at night and then has to lift his 30 pounds over the crib rail into bed... is why I've decided it's time for the toddler bed!  So, J left bright and early Monday morning for North Dakota and will be gone all week long... which means the minute C and I woke up on Monday I got to work converting his bed.  I'm happy to say that J's imagination is way wrong.  C was excited about his new bed.  He loves crawling into bed on his own.  Today is Thursday and he's now taken 4 naps and gone to bed 3 times in his new bed and never got up, never wondered around, never even tried to get into my bed.  Yeah, for dad being paranoid for no reason!  I actually have plans to convert C's room from the Ocean theme he's had since a baby to a more grown up toddler theme... coming soon.
Oh and not that I'm paranoid (okay, maybe a little bit) but I lock the gate at the top of the stairs at night just in case and I sleep with the baby monitor on my nightstand.  I might have also checked on him half a billion times the first few nights... just in case because you know his room is a whole 6 feet away from mine.
