Fishing

Connor has been asking me to go fishing with him and Jason has wanted me to go out on our boat.  Today was the first time I've set foot in the boat.  Vicki and Jon watched Kaiden for us.  We bought an infant life vest, but we're still nervous about taking Kaiden out on the water.  We took the boat out on Silver Lake, which is where Connor and Jason normally fish.  They go out fishing every weekend.  Connor always catches more fish than Jason.  They went fishing the day prior with Jason's friend, Scott and his son, Bryce (12 years old).  Connor caught 8 fish, Bryce 7, Jason 0 and Scott 0.  We went to their favorite fishing spot and almost immediately Connor caught a crappie.  The boys had fun fishing.  Connor ended up catching about 15 fish (I lost count after a while).  Jason caught 2.  Jason was mainly fishing for Tiger Musky though.  Connor fishes for crappie, sun fish and trout.  We didn't keep any fish... catch and release.  I don't have a fishing license so, my job was to put the worm on Connor's pole and take the fish off.  He tried to put the worm on when he was fishing with Jason before and poked himself with the hook so, now he's scared to try it again.  He also tried to get the fish off his line before, but that's sometimes even difficult for me and Jason to do when the fish swallows the hook.  Plus most of the fish that Connor catches are crappie and they have spikes that can cut you.  Connor is an amazing fisherman though.  Jason cast his pole a few times with no luck, but the minute Connor casts it he usually gets a fish.  It doesn't take him long at all!

Jason caught a fish... a very teeny tiny fish

I think the boys liked  having me out fishing with them... Jason got a chance to fish off the front of the boat since I was in the back of the boat attending to Connor's needs (worm on hook... 5 minutes later fish off hook...repeat).

After a while of fishing Jason wanted to take the boat for a spin around the lake.  Since it was Monday the lake was nearly empty so, Jason had a blast opening up the throttle and speeding across the water.  Connor and I also had a blast enjoying the wind blowing through our hair.  I also got a quick lesson on how to drive the boat and had fun zipping around (although I zip a lot slower than Jason.. he's way more experienced and confident than I am).

After zipping around we went back to their favorite fishing hole for some more fishing... followed with swimming.  We really didn't think Connor would get in the water since it was chilly, but he did.  In fact Connor had to convince Jason to get in the water!  Connor was worried that his life jacket wouldn't hold him up.  We had such a blast out on the water.  Connor said since he went swimming in the cold water and caught more fish than Jason that Connor was the captain for the day.  For the rest of the day he insisted on us calling him Captain Connor and each time we did he would smile from ear to ear.  We spent about 3 hours out on the water.  Afterwards I picked Kaiden up at Jon and Vicki's house and they said he was absolutely wonderful.  Everyone is amazed by how content and easy Kaiden is.  He's just my happy little camper, totally content to just look around and relax.
